Creators Need to Take Criticism Like Adults
I found the above in the back of an old Iron Man comic released in 1968, and it immediately made me feel nostalgic for a time when creators (at least outwardly) respected the fans and absorbed criticism without lobbing baseless accusations of -ism and -phobia at the audience.
If you're a creator, you needn't heed every fan complaint; you do have a right to your own artistic freedom. But behaving like a bratty, entitled child is not the way to go. As the Marvel folks wisely observe above, your readers have spent their hard-earned money on your product -- and that means you have a duty to treat them with civility.

It you can reject the false no art and make a game of it.Everyone has to operate in good faith in order to play.
ReplyDeleteRemember "no ptizes?"
'nuff said. 😋
False binary. Heh.
ReplyDeleteThe standard reply to any and all artistic criticism today is "it wasn't meant for you". In too many cases, the reply is spot on.
