Comics Industry Geniuses

Yeah, that title is ironic.

Many people on YouTube and elsewhere have been documenting - with justified disgust - the enthusiasm many comic book creators have evinced for Antifa and its recent activities. No one I follow has taken this particular angle yet, though, so here goes nothing:

Despite all their virtue signaling during the recent shutdowns - which led to work stoppages at most comic book publishers and the complete collapse of Diamond's remaining credibility for anyone with any business sense - these creators obviously don't give two craps about the modern-day direct market. If they did, they wouldn't fall in with people who are literally looting comic shops nationwide as we speak. (Unfortunately, that link is to Bleeding Cool, so: obligatory annoying ad warning!)

Riddle me this, you galaxy brains: if comic shops - small businesses all - end up folding under the financial strain of repeatedly repairing their shop fronts (or rebuilding their shops entirely) and replacing lost inventory thanks to your normalization of violent rioting and wanton property destruction, where exactly are you planning to sell your (often trash) product? You've already demonstrated a hostility to any other means of distribution (like, for example, Walmart or crowdfunding), so unless you're okay with hypocrisy, the LCS is the source of your bread and butter. So maybe - just maybe - you should stop for two effing seconds and think about the consequences of putting your radical politics above things like the rule of law -- upon which every industry, including yours, depends.

I'm not going to argue with the baseline cause (stopping police brutality and making PD's more accountable) because I agree with it. But I will argue against this seemingly prevalent notion that tearing down the entire fabric of our society is necessary to achieve that goal. I hate to break it to you knuckleheads, but if innocent people can't engage in economic activity without constantly fearing that thugs will destroy everything they've built if they happen to get their mad on about something (even if that something is an issue we should be angry about), the comic book industry as you know it will definitely die (though it can be argued that said industry is moribund already). And what will you do then, hmm? It's not like many of you have any other marketable skills -- especially not if you've been making comics full time your entire adult lives.

Comic books are a luxury product. They will not survive the hard left's desired revolution; they can only exist in a civilization that is stable, liberal, and prosperous. Bottom line, if you want to keep your jobs as artists and writers, perhaps you should cool it and quit egging Antifa on.

  1. This has nothing to do with logic. The hard left is a cult. The riots are part of their religion. They are acting on a purely emotional level, just like any other fundamentalist.
