As I said on Facebook, this has not been a good month for Star Trek fans. Auberjonois did a fantastic and extremely memorable job bringing Odo to life on DS9. My brother Matt and I adored his chemistry with both Armin Shimerman and Nana Visitor in particular.
I was a fan of René Auberjonois BEFORE it was cool. I have fond of him ever since his roll on Benson from ''80-'86, and ever after. His Wikipedia page is huge. He had such an epic career. He played a vampire in the comedy My Best Friend is a Vampire alongside Dr House's best freind Foreman, he was in Trek before DS9, in Star Trek: The Undiscovered Country. He was always great.
I'm a little too young to have seen him in Benson, but I definitely respect Auberjonois's long resume as a working actor. Like so many who ended up associated with Trek, he did the right thing and took all the jobs he could get!
Actors of a certain generation tended to be that way. They saw it as a job and treated it that way. They took everything offered, showed up on time, knew their lines, and always hit their cues. They understood that being able to play pretend for a living is a rare privilege.

DeleteChris - Yep. They had class and a genuine work ethic.
