I visit quite a few puppy connected blogs and indie is practically all they talk about as those are the folks most likely to publish (aside from Baen) what we want to read. Not to mention the fact that the dark lord himself is in the indie publishing business. So yeah, we are up on the latest things thanks.

After spending 5 decades and thousands of dollars on SF/F books, games, and movies, I don't need other people telling me if I'm a real fan or not. In middle school my best friends were Heinlein, Asimov, and Clarke. The first movie I ever rented (back when you had to rent the VCR too) was 2001. I even contributed to the head of the League of the Wooden Asterisk himself by buying some of his books. If you are taking my money, I'm a fan.

As to what we do now, I don't know. Obviously fretting about who gets nominated/wins the Hugo is a waste of time. Waiting for the kickers to welcome us back into what they call fandom is also not productive. My plan is to just enjoy the books I like and support the authors who write them. I'll leave the politics to others.

One last thing. Thank you for directing me to the post by Jeff Duntemann. It was quite good and I plan on making his blog another stop on my daily Internet travels.
Chris Lopeshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15603182786879935663noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4588236197446203618.post-38225921092847794112016-09-08T13:38:16.266-07:002016-09-08T13:38:16.266-07:00Thanks, Gunny. I have had a successful indie carreer for the last four years, and when told at a workshop last year that something I wrote was not Politically Correct, I answered that I wasn't PC and didn't have to follow that insane creed. I consider myself a real fan, since I have been reading science fiction since I was six (Robert Heinlein's Citizens of the Galaxy) followed by fantasy at seven (The Lancer Conans). I will be 59 next week, so that makes 53 years. Anyone who says I am not a fan will get an angry retort and a middle finger from me. What I am not is a fan of Worldcon. As far as I'm concerned it can just go away, and I will not shed one tear. People I know, like and respect were nominated for the Dragons, so that is the flag I will follow. They had Catholics, Mormons, Athiests, Conservatives and Liberals on the ballots, and people voted for what they liked best, with no voice from on high telling them what was good, and what was 'problematic.'Doug Dandridgehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16612173032450518089noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4588236197446203618.post-71429899591170176712016-09-08T12:13:09.250-07:002016-09-08T12:13:09.250-07:00Well said! In 2015 I was told by one of the truefen that just because I 'might' have read science fiction for 55 years, because I didn't support/work/donate to WC, 'I' was nothing more than a dilettante... That I hadn't payed my 'dues' to be one of the accepted... Even worse, I'm old, white, conservative and a gunny... LOL I just indie published my 4th novel, and am starting a Mil S/F novel now, because I CAN, and there is nothing those SJWs can do to stop me!!! :-)Old NFOhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16404197287935017147noreply@blogger.com
